The Constitution mandates that the Election Commission create an appropriate environment for voting, while the President is responsible for appointing the Inspector General of Police – DGEC

Director General Mr. Saman Sri Ratnayake said that the Election Commission believes that the President will appoint the Acting Inspector General of Police in the coming days as it is stated in the constitution that the appropriate environment for holding elections should be prepared. Mr. Ratnayake said that the President is responsible for appointing the Inspector General of Police and said that he cannot get rid of that responsibility even if he deposited the bond.
