Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (Pohottuwa) General Secretary Advocate Sagara Kariyawasam announced that former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who traveled abroad yesterday morning, will soon return to the island to spearhead the party’s general election efforts.
Kariyawasam provided this update in response to inquiries regarding Basil Rajapaksa, the founder of the Pohottuwa Party, leaving the country ahead of the presidential election.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa had initially planned to go abroad for medical tests a few weeks ago but dedicated himself to the party’s election activities for presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa until the very last moment. He had communicated his travel plans to the party, indicating that after his medical examinations, he would promptly return to oversee the upcoming general election.
In a related statement, Sagara Kariyawasam refuted rumors circulating on social media that Namal Rajapaksa’s two children had traveled abroad with their aunt and father-in-law earlier today, labeling these claims as entirely false. He further clarified that Namal Rajapaksa was engaged in religious activities at Kataragama Kiri Vehere with his family members this morning.
