Yesterday (June 19), the Ceylon Electricity Board decided to cut off the electric power of the historic Dickwella Vavurukannal Buddha Raja Maha Vihara Temple due to the fact that the electricity bill was one million fifty four thousand one hundred and eighteen rupees. Sri Lanka Latest News

With the designation of this as a Pooja city in 1988, the electricity bill concession was given to this temple and recently with the increase in electricity bill, the temple has a high electricity bill.

Local and foreign devotees come to this temple from all over the island and it is also a temple of historical value.

Also, as a social mission, the temple runs two pirives and the temple also runs a school.

This temple, which performs many religious, religious and social missions, has been in darkness since yesterday (June 19) due to lack of electricity.

Especially in this temple there is a hundred cubits high statue.

Reverend Karathota Pannasila Nayak, the vihara chief of the Vavurukannala temple, which has many elements including the tunnel temple depicting scenes of hell, was very sensitive and he said, in 1969, electricity was given to this Dikwella area and the temple, and before power was given to Dikwella, this historical Vavurukannala That Raja Maha Viharasthan was provided with electricity.

“Similarly, on August 30, 2008, the current Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, when he was the Minister of Sacred Lands and Urban Development at the time, laid the foundation stone by turning this place into a sacred place. Today, our temple is in complete darkness. Similarly, the people of the village, many people around here are very sad because the temple is in darkness today.

In fact, what was done was a great evil deed, a sinful deed. We cannot afford to pay such a large amount. Therefore, I think that the historic Vavurukannala Rajamaha Vihara will be kept in the dark for many more days.”
