Next Thursday (11) has emerged as a critical day for Sri Lanka.
This is due to the fact that China’s communication ship “Yuan Wang-5” is scheduled to arrive at Hambantota port next Thursday (11), entangling Sri Lanka in yet another international crisis, and former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is currently in Singapore, is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka.
Even now, the Indian government has notified the Ministry of External Affairs of its opposition to the Chinese ship entering Sri Lankan waters.
It is also known that Mr. Gopal Bagle, the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and expressed his disagreement with this.
Aside from India, the US government has taken steps to officially protest the Chinese ship’s entry into Sri Lankan waters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As a result, Mrs. Julie Chang, the US ambassador to Sri Lanka, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the US government disagreed.
It is also known that India and the United States are planning a joint military exercise in Indian waters. According to Indian media reports, it will take place in October of next year.
Furthermore, it is reported that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is planning to return to the island on Thursday (11).
After millions of people descended on Colombo on July 9 and took over the presidential palace in the fort, Gotabaya Rajapaksa took steps to flee the country.
As a result, Gotabaya Rajapaksa flew to Singapore.
The Singapore government granted him a 14-day temporary visa, which was then extended for a few days.
Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided to return to Sri Lanka because his visa expires next week.
It has also been learned that the former President, who is expected, intends to live in his private residence in Mirihana.
