Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has once again clarified that the controversial house situated on the banks of the Kataragama Menik Ganga does not belong to him.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, the former President addressed the matter as follows:
“It has been observed that, from time to time, certain media outlets have published reports incorrectly claiming that a building constructed by another individual near the Kataragama Menik Ganga belongs to me.
On Monday, October 13, 2025 [yesterday], several television channels once again mentioned my name in relation to this particular building.
A CID investigation was previously conducted regarding the ownership of the said property, during which I provided a statement. The only reason my name surfaced in connection with the matter was due to an application submitted under the name ‘G. Rajapaksa’ to obtain an electricity connection for that building.
However, the application did not bear a proper signature—it appeared as an indistinct scribble.
Since this false news continues to reappear periodically, I wish to reiterate for everyone’s information that the building near the Menik River in Kataragama is not my property. I have never had any reason or desire to construct or maintain any building in the Kataragama area.”
