As a result of the imposition of severe taxes on individuals, experts in the information technology (IT) sector are planning to relocate, according to Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) President Damith Hettihewa.
He stated during the Digital Investment Conference held to commemorate CSSL’s 40th anniversary that the local IT sector brings in five billion dollars and that they need the government’s support to achieve that goal.
“There are a lot of people who make money in the IT industry.” The youth community who earn money in the IT business do not want their earnings to be heavily taxed and utilised to support loss-making institutions.
As a result, he suggested that the government use the tax revenue created by the industry for the country’s education and innovation projects, because the youth community believes that the IT sector does not want the revenue earned by it to be put in loss-making institutions.
