A suspect has died following a shootout with Special Task Force (STF) officers in the Wewegama forest area of Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.
According to police sources, the suspect succumbed to gunshot injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital. An STF officer injured in the exchange of fire has also been admitted to the Sooriyawewa Hospital.
Reports indicate that two suspects were involved in the incident, and one of them managed to flee during the gun battle. It has also been revealed that the suspects hurled a grenade at the STF officers during the confrontation.
Police believe the deceased individual is linked to the recent shooting incident in Kosgoda. Further investigations into the matter are currently underway.
