The suspect accused of raping a female doctor, who was undergoing specialist training at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, has been arrested. The incident took place at her official residence.
According to police reports, the suspect was apprehended this morning (12) in the Galnewa area. He was identified as an army deserter on the previous day (11), prompting a large-scale manhunt. A special operation involving five police teams was launched to track him down.
In response to the incident, medical professionals, including doctors and other healthcare staff at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, have initiated continuous trade union action, demanding enhanced security for healthcare workers.
