On the occasion of Medin Full Moon Poya Day,High Commission of India in Colombo distributed 500 copies of the Sinhala translations of five Amar Chitra Katha Jataka Tales comic books at a special event held on 9th March 2025. The books were distributed to the students of Siri Pagngnathissa Dharma Vidyalaya of Sri Sudarshanarama Purana Viharaya, Kiribathgoda.

Translated and published by India’s largest comic book publisher, ‘Amar Chitra Katha’, the books are designed to present the timeless wisdom of the Jataka Tales in an engaging and accessible format. By bringing the moral lessons and spiritual teachings of Lord Buddha to young students through illustrated storytelling, this initiative aims to inspire children and instill core Buddhist values in them.

Professor Ankuran Dutta, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the cultural arm of the High Commission of India, symbolically handed over the books to the students. The initiative received an overwhelming response from the children, who deeply appreciated the generous gesture that will enrich their knowledge of Dhamma and Buddhist literature.

The initiative is yet another step towards further strengthening the civilizational bond between India and Sri Lanka, reinforcing a deeper appreciation of Buddhist heritage and literature. The High Commission of India will continue this effort by donating Jataka Tales comic books to Sunday schools across Sri Lanka, with the aim of bringing young learners closer to the teachings of Lord Buddha through a creative and engaging approach.
