The Supreme Court has scheduled February 12 as the date to hear petitions filed by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is seeking a ruling that his decision to appoint Deshabandhu Tennakoon as the Inspector General of Police is unconstitutional.

The petitions were taken up today (08) before a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justice Mahinda Samayawardena, and Justice Arjuna Obeysekara.

The bench directed that the petitions be formally heard on February 12.

A total of nine petitions have been filed in this regard by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Young Journalists Association, and several other parties.
