It has been nearly 76 days since the mysterious death of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena, yet key aspects of the investigation remain unresolved.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), which is conducting the investigation into Chandrasena’s death, has still been unable to unlock the mobile phone believed to have been used by the former airline executive.
When the case was taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday, investigating officers informed the court that arrangements had been made to send Chandrasena’s mobile phone to foreign institutions for forensic examination in an effort to access its contents.
Responding to the update, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the investigation.
“This is the same explanation that was given two weeks after the incident. Investigate this matter urgently. I am not satisfied with the investigations being carried out in this regard,” the Magistrate said.
The court also heard that investigators are still awaiting the forensic analysis report on the suspicious drugs recovered from the scene where Chandrasena was found dead.
In addition, the post-mortem report on Chandrasena’s death has not yet been submitted, it was revealed during the hearing.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kapila Chandrasena’s death is continuing.
