Supreme Court Petitioned Against New Director General of Bribery Commission Over Lack of Required Legal Experience I Sri Lanka Latest News

Its respondents, including the chairman of the Bribery or Corruption Allegations Investigation Commission, K.D Wijeratne who was appointed as its new Director General members of the Constituent Assembly, the Attorney General and others are being nominated.

The petitioners claim that under Section 19 of the Anti-Corruption Act, the person appointed as the Director General of the Bribery Commission should be a lawyer and should have 15 years of experience in handling criminal cases.

It has been pointed out in the petitions that although Mr. Wijayaratne, who is currently appointed as the Director General of the Bribery Commission, is a judicial officer, he has not met the basic qualifications, and it is alleged that the Constituent Assembly has failed to properly fulfil its responsibility under the Constitution in making this new appointment. have done

Accordingly, the petitioners further request the Supreme Court to rule that the respondents have violated basic human rights through the relevant appointment and to issue an order to prevent Mr. Wijeratne, who was appointed as the new Director General of the Bribery Commission, from working in that position.
