Supreme Court Motion Seeks Travel Ban on Excise Commissioner General Amid Contempt of Court Case
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Excise Commissioner General M.J. Gunasiri is currently facing contempt of court charges. A motion has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking a restraining order to prevent him, along with a group of officials including Mr. Gunasiri, from leaving the country. This motion follows reports indicating that these individuals may be planning to travel abroad.

The motion, submitted by a resident of Nittambuwa, is linked to a petition alleging that the respondents, including the Commissioner General of Excise, violated a Supreme Court interim order by issuing new liquor licenses in contravention of the law.

In a related development, Mr. W.A.K. Wijeratne, Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, has resigned from his position.
