Excise Commissioner General M.J. Gunasiri is currently facing contempt of court charges. The motion, submitted by a resident of Nittambuwa, is linked to a petition alleging that the respondents, including the Commissioner General of Excise, violated a Supreme Court interim order by issuing new liquor licenses in contravention of the law.
In a related development, Mr. W.A.K. Wijeratne, Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, has resigned from his position.
