The Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said that the executive cannot influence the decisions taken by the Constitutional Council. Sri Lanka Latest News

The Minister of Justice expressed these views while participating in the development of Pannipitiya, Depanama, Mahawatta road, under the project of 1500 kilometres of road renovation in the year 2024.

Answering a question raised by a journalist regarding the Speaker’s decision on the appointment of the new Inspector General of Police, the Minister said that despite the efforts to appoint 10 members to the Constituent Assembly by amending the Constitution, the reason for this problem is that the representative to be appointed representing the minor parties has not yet been named.

Because of this, the Speaker is facing a practical problem and if he believes that there is any legal problem in the Speaker’s decision, then the Supreme Court is the best place to get the interpretation of the constitutional issues.
