When the appointment of the Inspector General of Police was presented to the Legislative Assembly, 4 members of the Legislative Assembly voted in favour and two opposed, says Lakshman Kiriella, the chief organizer of the opposition. He says that two people were silent without expressing an opinion. Sri Lanka Latest News

“Initially, the speaker does not have a vote. The Speaker can vote only if the vote is tied. In the event of a tie, the speaker has no chance to vote. But the speaker has violated the constitution and used the vote. In this regard, we are prepared to present the facts to the court.

A person with human rights charges has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police. Law enforcement officers should be role models. A person who breaks the law cannot set that example. A person with a distinguished character is required for the post of Inspector General of Police. Only such a person can implement the law properly. “We will take a decision on the current Inspector General of Police under a government of SJB,” he says.
