“In a world where good news is scarce, moments of unexpected kindness shine brightly. Amidst the closure of McDonald’s outlets as per court directives, several Sri Lankan companies have emerged as beacons of hope for the affected employees.
Through LinkedIn posts, at least four companies extended invitations to former McDonald’s employees to join their ranks. Among them, Astron Ltd, renowned for its pharmaceuticals, nutrition supplements, animal health, and herbal products, has stepped forward to offer employment opportunities. Kumarini Seneviratne, Head of Human Resources, Admin, and Legal at Astron Limited, expressed the organization’s commitment to social responsibility by considering the absorption of McDonald’s employees into their workforce. She stated, ‘As a socially responsible organization, Astron Limited has decided to look at the possibility of absorbing a few employees who were previously employed by McDonald’s. We have a few we can offer in Astron canteens currently. So we would like to explore the job fit and culture fit of candidates for our organization.’
This gesture not only provides job security for those affected but also demonstrates the willingness of companies to support the local workforce during challenging times. It’s heartening to see these companies recognizing the skills and potential of the McDonald’s employees, offering them new opportunities within their industries. In a weary world, such acts of kindness truly shine
