HSBC warns customers of rise in credit/debit card scams here
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There is a rise in scams via credit and debit cards being observed in Sri Lanka, HSBC Bank has warned its customers. In a precautionary message it said beware of a misleading SMS sent from an unknown number regarding a package delivery. This message may contain a fraudulent link that directs you to a fake website, appearing to be a government website. Scammers may ask you to provide personal/sensitive information such as your address, card details and OTP to complete the delivery of the package.

“We urge you to refrain from sharing your personal/card information with any unknown parties/websites”, it said.

“If you are expecting a package delivery, always examine the tracking number and verify with the delivery partner prior to sharing your personal information.”

“Authorising a payment through OTP is irreversible, therefore exercise caution and always verify the transaction value and the currency on the OTP SMS prior to confirming the OTP to complete the transaction,” the notification added.
