Sri Lanka has officially announced its role as co-host of the world’s first Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in November.
The launch event took place at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo under the patronage of Youth and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Gamage emphasized that identifying individuals based on their disabilities is an unfair practice and called for the use of more respectful terminology. He assured the government’s full support for the tournament, stating that his ministry will provide the Sri Lankan team with all necessary facilities.
The Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 will bring together teams from Australia, England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United States. India and Sri Lanka will serve as joint hosts, with the opening matches taking place in India before the tournament moves to Sri Lanka. A total of 15 matches, including the grand final, are scheduled to be played across Sri Lanka from November 14 to 23.
Minister Gamage further noted that expanding sporting categories creates greater opportunities for participation, affirming that the government’s policy is to make sports accessible to all citizens.
