There is growing suspicion that two young women have died following an incident that allegedly occurred at a major international garment factory in Panadura. Sri Lanka Latest News

The incident reportedly took place yesterday, with eight individuals admitted to hospital for treatment. Although immediate medical attention was provided at the Panadura Hospital, factory workers strongly suspect that the two women tragically passed away.

Initial reports indicate that the deaths may have been caused by food poisoning. Hospital sources confirmed that the coroner has delivered an open verdict on the case.

When contacted, Panadura Hospital Director Dr. Athula Krishantha initially stated that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out and that the matter has been handed over to the Panadura Regional Health Services Office.

However, despite the severity of the situation, the catering company responsible has yet to conduct an internal inquiry or take preventive measures, nor have the hospital or relevant authorities issued any directives against the company.

It has also been revealed that four additional individuals who consumed the same food were hospitalized today.

Efforts to contact Dr. Krishantha for further clarification were unsuccessful. A female staff member who answered his phone stated that the Director was unavailable due to other commitments.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, no mainstream media outlets have reported on it so far. Allegations have also surfaced that the garment factory has launched a large-scale effort, leveraging its influence, to suppress media coverage.

Questions remain as to why the responsible authorities have yet to provide an official statement on the matter.

Meanwhile, employees of the factory continue to share extensive information regarding the incident. The Mawrata newspaper and Mawrata News website will publish a special report with further details this weekend.
