The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Minister of Transport and Highways’ resolution to take the necessary steps to amend the current motor traffic act, including the necessary amendments to allow the registration of electric three-wheeler vehicles.
Several parties have requested permission to use electric three-wheelers to popularise vehicles that run on electricity rather than fossil fuels in Sri Lanka, according to a statement from the Department of Government Information.
However, the motor traffic act must be amended because there are no required provisions in the current act, it added.
