The Coconut Research Institute has reached the final stages of its research on the use of sound waves to repel wild animals, according to Deputy Director Nayani Arachchige.
She made this statement in response to an inquiry made by Sri Lanka Latest News.
The sound wave machines developed under this project are designed to target wild animals such as elephants and monkeys, which frequently damage plantations.
According to the research findings, the use of these machines to repel wild animals has now reached a stage where it can be recommended for practical application.
The Deputy Director further explained that field tests are scheduled to be conducted in cultivation areas. Following several rounds of such trials, the machines will be made available to growers in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
