Reports of a new virus reportedly spreading in China have garnered significant attention in Sri Lankan media. In response, the Ministry of Health has announced that it is closely monitoring developments related to this situation.
Adding to the discussion, Professor Chandima Jeevandara, Director of the Institute of Allergy, Immunology, and Cell Biology at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, shared his insights on the matter via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“I have been receiving many calls since yesterday regarding the new wave of respiratory infections in China. Here is my opinion based on the current situation:
Respiratory infections are common in winter and are usually not a cause for alarm,” Professor Jeevandara stated, providing reassurance amidst public concern.
Further updates on the virus and its potential impact are expected as authorities continue to assess the situation.
