The highly anticipated joint press conference between Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

During the conference, President Dissanayake expressed confidence that his visit to India would pave the way for enhanced cooperation in various sectors. He extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Sri Lanka, underscoring the importance of maintaining close relations.

The President assured that Sri Lanka would never allow its territory to be used in a manner that compromises India’s security or regional stability, reaffirming his commitment to regional peace and harmony.

Reflecting on the challenges faced by Sri Lanka in recent years, President Dissanayake acknowledged the critical support provided by India during the island nation’s severe economic crisis two years ago. He highlighted India’s remarkable achievements in digitizing government services and expressed Sri Lanka’s aspiration to follow a similar path. Prime Minister Modi has pledged his assistance in this endeavor, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.

Addressing a long-standing issue, President Dissanayake emphasized the urgent need to find a sustainable solution to the ongoing fishing disputes between the two countries. He pointed out that illegal fishing practices in shared waters have led to the destruction of the fishing industry, calling on Prime Minister Modi to take concrete steps to resolve the matter amicably.

The press conference concluded with a strong message of mutual respect and collaboration, setting the stage for a deeper and more dynamic relationship between Sri Lanka and India.
