The Cabinet has taken note of the need for proactive measures in anticipation of potential challenges Sri Lanka may face due to the escalating military tensions in the Middle East.

In response, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Cabinet Sub-Committee tasked with closely monitoring the evolving situation in the region. The Sub-Committee will assess possible areas of impact, evaluate the severity of potential consequences, and recommend urgent and appropriate actions to the Cabinet on an ongoing basis.

To support the work of the Sub-Committee, a separate committee comprising the Secretaries of the relevant ministries will also be appointed to provide technical and administrative assistance.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee will include the following members:

Minister Vijitha Herath

Minister Samantha Vidyarathna

Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe

Minister Kumara Jayakody

This decision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring national preparedness in the face of global geopolitical developments.
