The Department of Census and Statistics has reported an increase in divorce rates in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Latest News
The final report of the 2024 Population and Housing Census released by the department indicates that the divorce rate for both men and women (per 10,000 people) has increased compared to the 2012 Population and Housing Census.
According to the 2024 Population and Housing Census data, 35 men and 50 women per 10,000 people have been recorded as divorced.
In comparison, the 2012 Population and Housing Census recorded 20 divorced men and 33 divorced women per 10,000 people.
The department further states that unlawful separations have also shown an increase.
Unlawful separations have risen to 79 men and 112 women per 10,000 people.
