In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral defense cooperation between the United States and Sri Lanka, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the Ministry of Defense.

The MoU was signed by the United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Ms. Julie Chung, and the Acting General of the Montana National Guard, Brigadier General Trenton Gibson, on behalf of the United States.

Signing on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka was the Secretary of Defense, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiya Kontha.

This MoU aims to enhance cooperation between the Montana National Guard, the 13th District of the United States Coast Guard, and the Sri Lanka Armed Forces under the United States Department of Defense’s State Partnership Program.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Minister Major General Jayasekara stated that the signing of the MoU marks an important milestone in the long-standing security partnership between Sri Lanka and the United States.

He further noted that Sri Lanka deeply appreciates the continued friendship, cooperation, and generosity of the United States of America, and looks forward to further strengthening this partnership.
