A special discussion headed by opposition leader Sajith Premadasa is scheduled to be held this evening regarding Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena’s agreement to appoint Mr. Johnston Fernando as the Acting Chairman at the Finance Committee meeting held today.

It is reported that the meeting will discuss the speaker’s failure to appoint Dr. Harsha de Silva for the position of Chairman of the Finance Committee.

In today’s meeting, Mr. Chandima Veerakkodi expressed his objection to the speaker agreeing to it and took steps to inform him that it will be noted.

It is learned that it has already been proposed to inform the International Parliamentary Union and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union against it.

However, earlier, Mr. Udaya Gammanpila had made a serious criticism about the way the speaker behaved when announcing the Supreme Court’s opinion regarding the Banking Act.
