FUTA decided to begin A/L exam paper-marking

With effect from today, university teachers have decided to participate in the evaluation of answer scripts for the 2022 Advanced Level examination.
At a press conference this evening (May 04), Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) chairman Prof. Shyama Banneheka stated that his organization’s members would not be intimidated by political pressure.
Prof. Banneheka stated that the FUTA has called off its trade union action but has vowed to fight on.

The FUTA’s trade union action in protest of the new tax policy delayed the evaluation of answer scripts by at least two months. They urged the government to repeal the recently enacted high taxes.

Last week, FUTA requested an urgent meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss the issues that prompted them to resort to and extend their strike.

In light of this, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) and the students’ parents urged university lecturers to postpone their strike until the answer script evaluation for the 2022 Advanced Level examination was completed.
