The Southern Provincial programme of the government’s ‘Ratam Ekata’ National Campaign, launched to eradicate the menace of drugs, will commence at 3.00 pm today (20) at the Tangalle Public Stadium under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The initiative aims to eliminate drug abuse and drug trafficking, which have endangered the lives of the country’s youth and schoolchildren. The government intends to implement the programme through a broad mechanism with active public participation. It also seeks to control both the supply and demand for drugs.

Schools, universities, the police, tri-forces, divisional secretariats, local government bodies, and other state institutions will be involved in the programme. The inauguration of the ‘Ratam Ekata’ initiative was held on the 30th of last month at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, also under the patronage of the President.
