Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary, MP Ranjith Maddumabandara, announced that a no-confidence motion will also be brought against the Speaker.

He made this statement after the Speaker presented the decision on the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition against Deputy Minister of Defence, retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara.

Maddumabandara further emphasized that if the democratic rights of the opposition are not safeguarded, the SJB will proceed with a no-confidence motion against the Speaker as well.

In response, Minister Bimal Ratnayake told Parliament that the opposition could never succeed in defeating the Speaker through such a motion.
