The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has decided to vote against the government’s proposal to remove Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission.

Considering this decision of the government as a course of action taken against the independent commissions, Samagi Jana Balawegaya has decided to vote against this, said the main organizer of the opposition, Member of Parliament Mr. Lakshman Kiriella.

Mr. Kiriella said that in the proposal submitted to the Parliament for the removal of the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, the mistake made by him was the protection of consumer rights and apart from that, no fraud and corruption charges have been leveled against him.

He said that due to local and international influence, independent commissions have once again been granted freedom under the 21st amendment as per the constitution, but it appears that under this government, there is a lot of pressure on independent commissions behind the scenes.
