According to the results of the recent local government elections, the opposition, led by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has gained control of the Ratnapura Pradeshiya Sabha. With a clear majority, the SJB successfully secured leadership of the council.
Following the vote held to elect the Chairman of the Ratnapura Pradeshiya Sabha, SJB candidate Hikkaduwa Liyanage Nimal Munasinghe, who obtained the majority support, was officially elected as Chairman today.
