SJB Declares It Will Not Defend Politicians Accused of Fraud or Corruption

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has announced that it will no longer represent or appear on behalf of individuals accused of fraud, corruption, or involvement in corrupt transactions.

This decision was made during the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Management Committee meeting held last Wednesday. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

Previously, when former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested, the charge against him was that he had traveled to Britain with his wife using public funds.

At that time, many individuals had pointed out that the arrest and subsequent remand based on that particular charge — especially while the former President was facing more serious allegations — appeared to be an attempt to suppress opposition political parties.

In response, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya had decided then to support the campaign seeking the former President’s release.

However, the SJB has now resolved not to appear on behalf of any politician implicated in corrupt dealings or facing bribery and corruption charges.
