Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has announced that six police teams have been mobilized to arrest former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.
The Minister confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
On the 28th, the Matara Magistrate’s Court issued a warrant for Tennakoon’s arrest in connection with the shooting incident that took place on December 31, 2023, in front of a hotel in the Pelena area of Matara. Additionally, a foreign travel ban has been imposed on him.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala stated yesterday that legal measures will be taken to seize the properties of individuals with outstanding warrants who attempt to evade the court. He emphasized that the enforcement of the law applies equally to all individuals, regardless of rank.
