Former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa has announced his decision to contest the upcoming Pradeshiya Sabha election under the banner of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

Speaking to the media, Rajapaksa stated that there is a renewed sense of enthusiasm within the party. He emphasized that his decision to contest was made in response to widespread requests and that he is open to contesting from any location within the district.

“We have made a difference, and now we are witnessing the impact of that change once again. However, there is now an attempt to alter the transformation that was brought about. In response, I am stepping forward to represent the Pradeshiya Sabha under the SLPP,” he said.

Rajapaksa further remarked on the party’s journey, stating, “There are ups and downs in politics. We are starting from the grassroots once more, and as per the collective request, I am prepared to contest from any area within the district.”
