The Fort Police have arrested six employees of a contracting company for allegedly stealing copper wire worth nearly Rs. 4.2 million from the lightning conductor system installed on the top floor of the old 16-storey Central Bank of Sri Lanka building, which is located in the high-security zone, the Fort Police confirmed.
Police have recovered approximately 30 kg of the stolen wire from the suspects. According to the complaint, the total length of the stolen wire amounts to 288 meters.
The theft was reported to the Fort Police by a Director of the Management Department of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on the 27th of last month.
