A car was shot at in Bambalapitiya marine drive this afternoon (07).Sri Lanka Latest News

Later, both vehicles fled and an excise inspector and three other excise officers were arrested by the Bambalapitiya police in connection with the incident.

This afternoon, an unknown group of people in a van that came along a side road, targeted a car near a petrol station in Bambalapitiya Marine drive.

The car was hit by several bullets in the firing, after which both the vehicles fled.

Accordingly, the police had set up police roadblocks at several places in the area and the van in which the group of people shot at the Wellawatta roadblock was taken into police custody.

It has been revealed that there were four officials of the Excise Department wearing civilian clothes traveling in that vehicle.

Excise officers have told the police that their team went to the place for an operation to arrest a group of drug dealers and shot at the suspect’s car while trying to escape.

The police said that although the excise officials had stated that they had planned to buy drugs by giving money to the drug dealers, they did not have the money.

Meanwhile, the police found the car that was shot at, abandoned in the Wellawatta area.
