The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the sea areas extending from Colombo to Puttalam and Mannar to Kankesanthurai.
According to the department, wind speeds in these regions could increase to 50-60 kmph at times, causing rough sea conditions. Fishermen and the naval community have been advised to exercise caution and pay close attention to the situation.
In a related development, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued an early warning notice concerning potential landslides. The warning is effective from 8:00 AM today (19th) until 8:00 AM tomorrow.
The NBRO has identified the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions for vigilance:
- Kandy District: Ududumbara
- Matale District: Yatawatta, Ukuwela, Raththota, Wilgamuwa
Additionally, heightened alertness has been advised for the following areas:
- Badulla District: Badulla, Passara, Hali Ela
- Kandy District: Medadumbara, Pathadumbara, Doluwa
- Kurunegala District: Ridigama
- Matale District: Laggala Pallegama, Ambanganga Korala, Pallepola, Matale, and Naula
Authorities urge residents in these areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions to mitigate risks associated with adverse weather conditions.
