This decision has been taken due to the inundation of many low-lying areas and roads due to heavy rains.
It was revealed that children and non-academic staff of many schools in Matara and Akuressa region have been affected by the flood situation.
Accordingly, it was decided to close schools and the situation of re-opening of schools next Monday is scheduled to be further discussed in the District Disaster Management Committee meeting next Saturday.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held today (04) at the Matara District Secretariat under the chairmanship of Electricity and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera and Southern Province Governor Willy Gamage.
