The death toll from the tragic accident that took place last night (24) at the Na Uyana Aranya Senasana in Melsiripura has risen to seven, after a cable-car carrying a group of monks collapsed.
Among the deceased are two foreign monks, whose bodies have been placed at the Gokarella District Hospital. The remains of the other monks have been transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
According to reports, 13 monks were traveling in the cable-car at the time of the incident. Several monks who sustained critical injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
