Speaking in Parliament during the official visit of the Vietnamese President, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said he appreciates Vietnam’s economic reforms implemented under the “Doi Moi” policy framework, noting that the country has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world by attracting billions of dollars in foreign direct investment annually.
He further highlighted Vietnam’s success in attracting global investors such as Samsung through strong policies and strategic economic planning, adding that Sri Lanka has much to learn from Vietnam in terms of both economic and microeconomic management.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also emphasized the long-standing relationship between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, recalling the visits of former Vietnamese leaders, including Ho Chi Minh and former Prime Minister Pham Van Dong.
He also appreciated Vietnam’s non-aligned foreign policy approach and called for closer cooperation between the two countries in advanced technological sectors, including electronics, artificial intelligence, and modern innovative industries.
Premadasa expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen bilateral relations and said cooperation between Sri Lanka and Vietnam is expected to grow further through this visit.
