Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa underscored Australia’s significant role in Sri Lanka’s development and emphasized the potential for future collaboration during the renewal of the Sri Lanka-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Association at the Sri Lankan Parliament.

Expressing deep gratitude for Australia’s unwavering support during critical moments—such as the 2004 tsunami, the Easter Sunday attacks, and the recent economic crisis—Premadasa acknowledged the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations. He highlighted key areas of mutual cooperation, including education, trade, migration, and tourism, while urging increased Australian investments and the establishment of joint educational ventures in Sri Lanka.

Premadasa also stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in security and governance, citing Australia’s legislative best practices, particularly its Parliamentary Budget Office, as a valuable model for Sri Lanka. He called for closer collaboration to drive shared prosperity, equitable growth, and people-centric development.

The event reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to strengthening ties and fostering mutual progress.
