During his official visit to India, Sri Lankan Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa met with Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for a significant discussion focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation and sharing best practices related to parliamentary procedures.
Both leaders exchanged a range of ideas on enhancing institutional professionalism, strengthening legislative research, and promoting greater youth participation in parliamentary affairs.
They agreed to advance cooperation between the Sri Lankan Parliament and the Lok Sabha through structured exchanges, study visits, and capacity-building initiatives.
The meeting also underscored the shared commitment of both countries to the values of democracy, transparency, and parliamentary integrity.
Following the discussions, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa was invited to tour the newly established Speaker’s Office complex of the Lok Sabha. During the visit, he observed the state-of-the-art facilities and the fully digital, paperless parliamentary operation system — a model of modernized legislative governance and efficiency.
