They robbed 11 sovereigns, 2 lakhs rupees in cash, 3 mobile phones and other valuables. At the time of the escape, the group of thieves also took a car worth around sixty lakh rupees which was parked in front of the house.

A young couple with their four-month-old baby lived in that house, and the group of robbers who came to rob the house called the name of a friend of the house owner and made the door open.

The Manipay police have made the house a no-go area and have deployed security.

The people of Jaffna have expressed their displeasure about the looting of money and property by holding a four-month-old baby as a hostage and the number of crimes committed at night in Jaffna has increased recently due to the lack of adequate police mobile services at night.
