Retired IGPs and Senior DIGs Protest Former Officials Joining National People’s Force at Solis Hotel Press Conference in Kotte

A coalition of retired IGPs and retired Senior DIGs held a press conference today at Solis Hotel in Kotte, protesting the joining of Former Senior DIG Ravi Senaviratne and former Director of Criminal Investigation Department former SSP Shani Abeysekera, the National People’s Force. A group of former senior police officers including the former Inspector General of Police Mr. Chandra Fernando participated in the press conference and the former Inspector General of Police said that the police department which has a 150 years old illustrious history should not be brought into politics and discredited and the same officers who conducted investigations related to the violence during the period of terror are now said to be involved in them. The police department itself is said to be shocked by the influx of people.

The two main officers of the Criminal Investigation Department who are responsible for not preventing the Easter attack are at the forefront of the National People’s Force police team and the then Inspector General of Police gave those two senior officers to investigate the killing of two police officers at a Wavnathiv police station in 2018 by Saharan’s team, but they are responsible for the murder. Retired DIG Palitha Siriwardena said that the investigation into the arrest of the former LTTE members was closed.

Former Senior DIG in charge of the Eastern Province Edison Gunathilake, Vice President of International Police Union Sri Lanka Branch retired Superintendent of Police Norton de Silva, retired Senior DIG Sumit Edirisinghe, retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Senaka Kumarasinghe who was in charge of the department, retired Superintendent of Police Jayantha Herath and others.
