The Department of Meteorology has issued a red advisory for heavy rainfall affecting the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts.
According to the department, the prevailing rainy conditions are expected to continue due to the influence of a low-pressure area located near the island.
Very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is expected in several other parts of the island.
The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks caused by strong winds and lightning that may accompany heavy thundershowers.
