In a special post shared on his official Facebook account, MP Harsha de Silva has made a statement regarding his political future, party stance, and vision for the country.
He stated that no one in his family has been involved in politics and said he entered politics at a young age with the goal of helping Sri Lanka become a developed nation.
Emphasizing that he would not make decisions for narrow political gains, he said he has no intention of leaving the center-right political camp.
He also criticized the current government, claiming it lacks a long-term economic vision, and stated that the country cannot be developed without adopting open economic policies.
Dr. de Silva further said that no discussions have taken place regarding joining the government and alleged that certain propaganda campaigns are being carried out to create divisions within Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
He added that he intends to intensify his political struggle against the current government in order to achieve economic prosperity for the country and said he is prepared to accept any challenge for the nation when needed.
Statement by Harsha de Silva:
“The country needs a new era.
No one in my family is involved in politics. At a young age, I developed a passion for this country. I wanted my country to become a developed nation in the world one day. That desire pushed me into politics, and that feeling remains unchanged even today.
I am working to fulfill that dream one day. Therefore, I do not make political decisions for narrow political gains. It appears that some people want to send me to the center-right camp. That will never happen. My politics will definitely move forward to a point where I can one day provide leadership to that camp.
This government is a failure. It is clear that this government lacks a far-sighted economic vision. This country cannot be built with narrow ideas that are not open to the world. This will become even clearer in the future.
I will not join this government. I have never had such discussions. These campaigns show that a certain group is trying to create issues within the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
I will strengthen my fight against this government in the future to build a developed Sri Lanka with economic prosperity — not by opposing everything, but by promoting a progressive political culture that supports what is beneficial.
I also emphasize that I am ready to take on any serious challenge for the country at the right time. The country needs a new era.”
