A meeting between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and prison guards, jailers and other prison officials was held at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon (17).
The discussions focused on the problems that have arisen within the prison system and the urgent steps that need to be taken to address them.
Special attention was also paid to the recent incident at the Negombo Prison, with discussions held on steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The President also paid special attention to the problems faced by prison officials and matters related to their welfare.
The prison officials pointed out that this was the first time they had been given an opportunity to directly present their problems to a President and expressed their gratitude to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for providing them with that opportunity.
