President Ranil Wickremesinghe made a special statement in Parliament today and commented on the 13th Amendment. Sri Lanka Latest News

President Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized that since the 13th Amendment of the Constitution is the supreme law of the country, it cannot be ignored.

The President also mentioned that the Executive and the Legislature are bound to implement it.

To achieve this, he emphasized the need for consensus among all parliamentarians through broad and open-minded discussions.

Meanwhile, the President also said that the President is preparing to amend the Provincial Council Elections Act after establishing new laws regarding Provincial Councils.

The President also mentioned that the government is focusing on appointing an advisory committee to advise the provincial governors until the provincial councils are operational.

The President had proposed to appoint another committee for legislation.

Pointing out that the opposition should deviate from the traditional view of opposing every decision taken by the government, the President emphasized that the opposition should consider the opinions of the decision makers and work to promote a more balanced and cooperative political environment.

The President also emphasized the importance of working faithfully and responsibly before the Parliament.

The President also said that the development of the country depends on the joint efforts taken for a fresh direction by encouraging the adoption of this new approach.

Addressing the Parliament, President Ranil Wickremesinghe asked all the MPs to avoid personal debates and focus on the future of the country.

He mentioned that there is a need for sincere unity among the parliamentarians to take decisions that give priority to the long-term interests of the country.
