In the 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am today, the highest rainfall was reported from Tissamaharama area.
With the rains, the water levels of many major rivers have now reached the overflow level, and the Department of Meteorology states that rain can be expected in the next few days.
However, the meteorological department further states that the rain condition may decrease gradually from next Saturday.
